Paddle with us, get into training and experience dragon boat racing. Consider this your dragonboat membership for 4 weeks - and it's free! No dragon boating experience required.
Meet new people, get to know the Different Strokes crew and make lifelong friends. Work with our coaches and develop your personal fitness goals. Train with us and race in local regattas.
The address of the training venue is 17 Bank St, Pyrmont, near the corner of Quarry Masters Drive. Enter the gates and look out for the black, white and rainbow training tops some of our members are wearing.
Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the start time on your first session, as we'll need you to fill out a waiver form and give you the quick how-to-paddle introduction. If you're coming to one of our weekday sessions that's 6:20pm, and 7:05am on our Saturday morning session.
Training sessions are varied and designed to help paddlers of all levels to build strength and fitness. In addition to an on-land and on-water warm up, expect everything from resistance work to endurance drills to practice race starts in preparation for racing.
Most of our club members tend to wear clothing that is quick-drying, breathable and water sports appropriate (you will get wet!). Some form of anti-slip shoes / closed in sandals for footwear (maybe not your favourite trainers - they will get wet!).
Just yourself and a bottle of water to take onto the boat. The club has a selection of paddles of varying sizes, for new members of all heights and body types to use when they're starting out.
Even though the dragon boat is very unlikely to capsize, if you are not able to swim 50m (or if you are not confident in the water), you will need to wear a life jacket.
