NSW State Championships - Race day wrap up

The Dragon Boats NSW State Championships were held last Saturday 30 March at the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith. Different Strokes entered five crews (two Opens, two Mixed, and one Womens) with a total of 51 paddlers participating. The day resulted in us ranking 7th in NSW in the Premier Opens category, and in the top ten for the Premier Mixed category as well. Superb work team!

I think we can safely say smiles all around!

Rodney has also sliced together a great video of our different crews which brilliantly demonstrates the energy and excitement of race day. Thanks Rod!

A big thank you to all of the friends and family of Different Strokes that made it down. It makes the race day experience all the more special knowing you're there supporting us.

Last but not least, a very special congratulations to our head coach, Tanya White, and friend of Different Strokes, Mary Weaver, for receiving the DBNSW President's Award for their service to the dragon boating community in their hard work in building the junior capacity in the sport.

The 2013 AusDBF Australian Dragon Boat Racing Championships is less than two weeks away. See you all at training. Paddles up!

Different Strokes at Fair Day & our next Social Paddle

It's getting to the business end of the dragon boat paddling season. We've got a few fun things coming up over the next couple of weeks.

Our stall at Fair Day

Mardi Gras season is upon us! If you'll be checking out Fair Day, be sure to swing by the Different Strokes stall, located with the other Team Sydney sports stalls, near the Main Stage and Sea of Hearts (link to map).

You'll also have the opportunity to register for our next social paddle...

Come float our boat! Different Strokes Open Day Paddle: Saturday 27th October

I think everyone can agree that summer is definitely knocking at our doors! Training on the water in the past few weeks has been awesome (both in effort and temperature) and we’re all gearing up for future racing regattas after some great results so far this season (incl. a minor final win at the 200 meter racing at Penrith recently).

Our next open day paddle is October 27 so if you know anyone who would like to give dragon boating a go, to see what all the fuss is about, tell them to come down - everyone is welcome!

Also, if you’re a past member and can’t paddle due to injury or other commitments, we’d still love to see you and say hello - afterall, Different Strokes is also about the social aspect of our group and we'd love to maintain the connections we've made with some great people. So feel welcome to come to our sausage sizzle afterwards and say gidday – just RSVP. Email: This email address is being protected from spambots.
